Brightstar Named Global Distributor for Android Developer Device.

Brightstar Named Global Distributor for Android Developer Device.

Brightstar announced today that it has been selected to develop and implement the first global sales and distribution program for Android Dev Phone 1, an open source-based mobile device geared toward the worldwide developer community. The program launches today.
Android is a complete, open mobile phone software stack. It includes everything a manufacturer or operator needs to build a mobile phone.

Google, along with the Open Handset Alliance, created this complete platform where the mobile device is open and integrated with the Internet, allowing everyone in the mobile ecosystem to benefit.

"Android has generated excitement at a fevered pitch around the globe. Brightstar is thrilled to be part of this defining moment for the wireless industry and to offer Google's developer community and the industry the first Android developer phone to meet these dynamic market demands," said R. Marcelo Claure, president, chairman & CEO of Brightstar Corp.
Under the terms of the agreement, Brightstar provides an online e-commerce function serving 18 international markets where Android developers live. Brightstar will deliver the Android Dev Phone 1 to developers in countries throughout North America, Europe, Asia and Australia. The program will expand to new countries over time.

The Android Dev Phone 1 will be sold and shipped to pre-qualified developers, allowing them to run and debug their Android applications directly on a device. Developers are also encouraged to use the open platform to modify and rebuild the Android operating system, and flash it onto a phone. Android Dev Phone 1 is carrier independent and is available for purchase by any developer registered with Android Market(TM).
