Vic: Two motorcyclists die in Victoria as Easter weekend ends
MELBOURNE, April 12 AAP - Hopes of a fatality-free Easter on Victoria's roads were
dashed with the deaths of two motorcyclists today.
The last time Victoria was free of fatalities over the Easter period was in 1989, while
in 1999 one person died on the state's roads during the holiday.
In the first accident today, police said a 49-year-old Mount Eliza man died after he
crashed head-on with a car on the Great Alpine Road, south of Swifts Creek, about 2pm
(AEST).
The driver of the car was transported to hospital with non-life threatening injuries.
The age and identity of the driver of the car have not been released.
The second accident occurred about 3.15pm (AEST) on the Calder Highway, near Taradale,
north-west of Melbourne, police said.
The 37-year-old Taradale man died after his motorcycle collided with the rear of a
four-wheel drive.
The female driver of the car was not injured in the accident.
The accidents take the state's Easter road toll to two and 94 for the year, compared
with 107 at the same time last year.
Six people were killed in Victoria over the Easter period last year.
