NAT: Do your teeth a favour eat all your eggs at once
Dentists are advising Easter egg lovers not to spread their chocolate gorge over the whole
long weekend because snacking on the once-a-year treats puts teeth at greater risk of decay.
KARIN ALEXANDER, president of the South Australian branch of the Australian Dental
Association says no one should feel guilty about scoffing all their Easter eggs in one sitting
on Sunday -- because after all, they'll be doing their teeth a favour.
Dr ALEXANDER says any sweet foods, such as chocolate, biscuits, soft drinks or sports
drinks, should not be consumed over an extended period.
That's because they cause the acid level in the mouth to increase dramatically, allowing
bacteria to use the sugar in the food to begin the decaying process.
She's also recommended that egg-eaters rinse their mouth with water or chew on sugar-free
gum following their chocolate binge to lower the acid level in the mouth.
